Sorry Sandy, Tried to pick up your video etc but unsuccessful I often have this trouble , never mind, It sounds like you had a huge blow We got heaps of rain and about an hour of high winds then it died down but the rain went on for ever and our Ducks were wading about up to their bellies in mud. One Duck took over the Duck house and sat in the doorway and would not let the other three in, so they had to sit under the house (its on short stilts) they looked very bedraggled and not at all pleased !!! the only good thing about it for them was there were loads of worms,

Hi Liz, sorry to be slow getting back to you, I didn't fine your post until a few minutes ago. I wish we could send Susan some of our rain! It has been about the same as what you described, down here. Very wet and stormy. Though it was not too bad on New Years day. I see we might have a full week of sun later in January. I hope they got that right! :-)

The video was of how the storms were causing huge waves at the mouth of the Columbia river as it was happening during the annual King Tides. Quite impressive. I hope your bully duck is letting the other ducks take shelter by now! And hope you see the sun soon, too!

Hi there Liz, actually I am just a little south of the the Olympics, not too far from Shelton, Wa. :-) More rain today, but in a lighter version with less wind. Hope you are finding the New Year to your liking so far. Must say that I have been keeping busy with several tasks that I enjoy. We Capricorns can get a kick out of organizing and multi tasking! :-) On ward into our future with the dishes done!

Yes Susan, we have had more rain yesterday and today, then last night was a good frost, and today it has been very cold. I think we may be getting our winter later. Last year we has several feet of snow at Christmas. Coming from UK this weather is not unusual to me but I think the winters here in BC seem to go on longer, or perhaps being younger it seemed like that when I wanted to get out and do things. or because I am getting OLD, I now feel I need to wear socks in bed!!!

What a terrible confession.......

It is always 1/2 way with the closets for me, too. But, we try, and I do see some improvement. Really Sandy you are never going to wear most of this stuff and the truth is, neither is anyone else going to want to. LET GO! LOL Maybe I should just cover my eyes and start putting stuff in a big bag. Wishing us both luck in our quest for order!

Liz, that sounds like heaven to this rain-starved Texas girl--muddy ducks and all! Sorry for the mess, glad there was no serious damage.

Finally found a place that would let me reply.

All power to us!!!! I will hunt up the book in the library, So far such madness as book banning is still minimal here, This is how Hitler started, so many of us are old enough to understand this.

Hi everyone, Susan, what a great and in depth article. I am a Sag, born on December 10th but have many Capricorn attributes. Particularly with the land. I carry Mullin Comfrey and many other plants in my Cottage garden that relate to this sign. Geoff and I plant by the moon, save seeds from year to year and dig in as much of our compost as we can. Now the garden is a wet mess, we have had so much rain, but hidden under all that has been left for the birds are tiny shoots waiting for next year. Here is a question for folks, What makes our personality, I am not referring to the external things like life and family but are we born with certain God given traits that lead us to think and discover the world around us in a unique way? This is something I have often pondered on. Love to hear your thoughts. Have wonderful rest everyone, and hope to touch base in the New Year.

Hi Liz, Thanks for sharing about how you and Geoff care for your bit of earth! I too have comfrey, and also a beautiful stand of Solomon's Seal near my side door. It is perfectly happy in the shade and has so many different displays from early spring thru fall before dying back to the ground. I love how the bee's love the comfrey. Often sleeping in the blue bell shaped flowers overnight. I am not so fond of how it likes to spread and become difficult to remove as it will come back from the smallest bit of living root. But, one lives and learns. I now bend over the stalks at the ground, still in tact but not likely to send up new shoots. I have managed 3 areas in this way for many years. Meanwhile letting the bee's enjoy themselves and using some cuttings to decompose in buckets of water to create wonderful fertilizer.

I like you question about where our personalities comes from. It made me think of a curious example in my mother's family. I have a cousin several years older than me. She is the daughter of a favorite uncle. He got along with everybody! Had bosses who loved him and co workers who loved to spend week-ends with him. His daughter, my cousin, was a real stinker! She was totally self concerned. Married 2 good guys and made their lives hell. It was very hard to imagine how she could be related to my uncle, let alone his daughter? But here is the real head scratcher. She has 2 daughters of her own and they are both wonderful people!! Great mothers, kind and generous people with happy marriages. How they turned out this way after the things their mother put them through, must come down to an example of individual personality/character. I know some attributes skip a generation. Perhaps this is an example of that? I will be interested to hear what others think about your question. Mean time, sending my wishes to you for a Happy Christmas and New Year!

Hi Sandy a happy Christmas to you and yours, Yes I know family members like you describe too!! I also can imagine your garden, you sound a lot like us Bees for ever and pollinators encouraged, and wonderfully smelly buckets of Comfrey fertilizer . Today we are expecting a massive storm and high winds, so we have battened down the hatches. Always a bit of a worry as we are surrounded by high trees.

See you in the New Year,

Oh do take care Liz. We are also getting that storm today. :-( I will be filling my thermoses with boiling water and just staying snug in my warm bed if we lose power. Not my idea of a fun Christmas. Keeping my fingers crossed that your trees stay upright and my roof holds! Hang in there and stay snug!

thanks Sandy,

So far it seems we have missed the worst of the storm in our area, but we have had a lot of rain It will be with us again Boxing Day, and yes we are staying snug, with old movies, Ginger wine and Christmas cake, with icing

Stay safe yourself, We had a new roof put on our cottage in September at a staggering cost and are we glad be took the plunge, mind you we are pulling in our horns at the moment to recover - no ice cream for some time to come Ha!! Have a successful 2025.

Liz, hope all is still going well for you. Happy to say that so far we too have had an easier storm than was predicted, at least in my area. Though I see we still have more storms coming our way over the next 3 days. And yes the we have had lots of rain! I do not have to worry about flooding, but many people do. My roof is scheduled for redoing later in 2025. I hope it holds till then! :-) Love to hear of your edible treats! I cooked-up some gluten free treats yesterday to have on hand in case the power went out. Now I am in gluten free heaven! May your 2025 hold treats and fun for you too, Liz!

We added a metal roof to our house a few years ago, Liz, and love it--especially with the increasing fire danger here. Expensive yes, but necessary.

We made ginger wine some years ago, in our "vintner" era. 🙂 Enjoyed it! This is similar to the process we used, in case anybody's tempted to try it: https://www.pixiespocket.com/2017/10/ginger-wine.html

Susan, Thank you for the link to make ginger wine! Sounds very doable! And fun, too. Looking for all of the fun I can add to 2025! :-)

I think it's a question we all ponder, Liz. My brother and I share a passion for discovering the world (as you put it) through writing and have both made our living as writers (unique in our extended family). We repeatedly return to the question: where does that come from? (Certainly not from our inadequate rural education!) Wondering if it's somehow genetic, we went in search of a missing grandfather and (thanks to DNA) found him--but that still didn't answer the question.

I'm guessing you have more Saturn/earth in your chart somewhere. You've even found someone who shares that earthy inclination with you. Happy holidays to you and Geoff!
