Wishing For Winter

If you live anywhere other than Texas, you’re probably rolling your eyes at the idea that someone—anyone—in her right mind might be wishing for winter in January.

But it’s true. We’ve cooled down a bit over the past weekend (if you call 60 “cool”), but the forecast is for continued record-setting temps through the end of January. I’m not wishing for a winter wonderland, but a string of freezes might restore a sense of normalcy (difficult as that is under current political conditions), kill off a few bad bugs, and renew our dream of wildflowers in the spring. Many of them depend on the October-November rainy season (which didn’t happen) and a several freezes in early December to prompt dormancy (didn’t happen either). We can hope for a bluebonnet or two in April, but I’m not holding my breath.
